On 25 June, a major programme was officially launched at the Banque des Territoires – Indian Ocean, bringing together the State, the Réunion Region, ACTEE (Local Authorities Action for Energy Efficiency), FNCCR and EduRénov from the Banque des Territoires. The programme aims to support between 30 and 50 exemplary energy renovation projects in schools in Reunion Island (primary schools, lower and upper secondary schools) over the next three years.

A clear objective: adapting school buildings to climate challenges

In an island context where climate challenges are particularly acute, the programme aims to transform schools into buildings that are more energy-efficient, more comfortable and more resilient. The goal is to reduce energy consumption, improve the thermal comfort of users and combat urban heat islands.

Structuring financial support

Funding of €220,000 over three years, provided by ACTEE (€120,000) and EduRénov (€100,000), enables the creation of a project manager position within Énergies Réunion, the Regional Energy and Climate Agency. The project manager will play a key role in identifying, structuring and supporting projects led by local authorities.

Close links will also be maintained with the funders’ committee set up in early 2024, in order to effectively direct local authorities towards the most suitable funding schemes: Ademe, the State, ERDF, AFD, ACTEE, EduRénov…

An ambition extended to all public buildings

While schools are the current priority, the programme plans to extend to other public buildings from year N+2: sports facilities, administrative buildings, etc. A virtuous dynamic aimed at strengthening Reunion Island’s resilience to climate change.
