On 27, 28 and 29 May, MoCA hosted a Peer Review organised by the Réunion Region, with the support of Énergies Réunion and the Interreg Europe Policy Learning Platform. Three days of exchanges marking real progress towards the creation of a Centre of Excellence dedicated to local energy and sustainable tropical buildings.

The Peer Review, an exercise in sharing between European regions

The purpose of a Peer Review is not to lecture, but to share experiences, good practices and constructive critical perspectives between European regions, in order to move forward together on a concrete public policy challenge.

Over three days, nearly 50 stakeholders from Reunion Island, including elected officials and institutions, academics, businesses and citizen representatives, exchanged views with seven peers from across Europe (Cyprus, Greece, Spain, Denmark, Portugal, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands) and with four thematic experts from the Interreg Europe Platform.

Three days, three highlights

Day 1 – Presentation of the project’s ambition, the island’s needs and Reunion Island’s strengths, complemented by site visits focusing on agrivoltaics and the local solar industry.

Day 2 – Sharing of experiences by the European peers: their centres, agencies and innovation structures, and the key lessons for our project.

Day 3 – Formulation of concrete recommendations for the future Centre of Excellence in Reunion Island, led by the Interreg Europe team of experts and presented in a plenary session to regional stakeholders.

A milestone in the Energy Platform project

This event is fully part of the project to create an Energy Platform in Reunion Island, which we are supporting. It both strengthens and validates this support, while consolidating the roadmap for the coming months.

The goal: to soon see this Centre of Excellence emerge, serving local, clean and affordable energy and sustainable tropical buildings.

We would like to thank all the stakeholders involved and the European peers for these rich exchanges.
