The Bras des Lianes micro hydropower plant, owned by the Réunion Region and located in the uplands of Bras-Panon, was commissioned in 1992 and installed on a drinking water supply network.

Its water intake, on the Bras des Lianes (partly fed by a diversion of the Bras Piton), is used both to supply drinking water reservoirs in the municipality of Bras-Panon and for electricity production via the Bras des Lianes hydroelectric plant.

Energies Réunion ensures and optimises the plant’s electricity production

On behalf of the Réunion Region, SPL Energies Réunion provides project owner assistance on the works in progress, namely the installation and commissioning of the stage 2 alternator and the Pelton wheel.

  • Supervision of the operation of the 2 plants since 1 January 2015,
  • Drafting of operating procedures
  • Analysis of the PLC
  • Management of maintenance procedures
  • Support for the revaluation of the purchase tariff for the electricity produced
  • Management of relations with partners (municipalities of Saint-André and Bras-Panon, the General Council and their respective contractors)
  • Real-time management of and interventions on critical points between electricity production and the drinking water supply of part of the municipality of Saint-André
  • Daily monitoring of the plant’s operation to optimise its electricity production.

Rising electricity production

Thanks to this work by SPL Energies Réunion, the Bras des Lianes hydroelectric plant has produced 1,920 MWh of electricity since taking over operational supervision on 1 January 2015.

This represents an increase of 418% compared with 2014 and 901% compared with 2013. The equivalent of 795 households has thus been supplied with this clean, renewable energy since the start of the year.
